Isabella has no outlet for her grief, and she has no power to exact her own revenge or otherwise get justice for her son. Isabella’s character underscores Kyd’s primary argument that revenge is not for mortal man to seek, and she highlights the struggle of women in 16th-century society as well. Before she kills herself, Isabella curses the garden and the tree Horatio was hanged from, so it may never bear fruit again. After Horatio’s death, Isabella is consumed by grief and begins to slip into insanity, and she ultimately commits suicide in the garden in the very place where Horatio was murdered. “The heavens are just,” Isabella says, “murder cannot be hid.” According to Isabella, revenge is God’s responsibility, not Hieronimo’s, and justice shall be served with His judgement. Isabella runs into the garden after Hieronimo the night Horatio is murdered by Lorenzo and Balthazar, and she warns Hieronimo not to be hasty in seeking revenge. The plot for each book is strong and the overarching plot of the series has kept me guessing (and guessing wrong lol) the entire time. Our world just kept growing and overlapping and I love a series that will pull previous characters in. With that said, I can't say a single negative thing about this series. tough actions and descriptions (some of these things are on page) so I just want you to know before going in. The main characters are good guys (obvs) but they are still vampires and lycans living in a society that does not value human life AT ALL, so throughout the series you will see some pretty. It's riveting! So this review will just tell you about the series as a whole: it's amazing! Very dark, so please read the page before getting into the book. I just finished book 5 and now realized that I didn't do reviews because I went from one book straight into the next one, I couldn't stop. |
